Flavor Profile: Moscato offers vibrant fruit flavors such as peach, apricot, mandarin orange, and ripe pear, complemented by floral aromas of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and rose petal. The distinctive “Muscat Aroma” comes from a natural compound called linalool, also found in mint and citrus flowers. Sweetness and Acidity: Moscato is generally a sweet wine, due to higher levels of residual sugar. This sweetness is typically balanced by refreshing acidity, which prevents it from being cloying on the palate. Alcohol Content: Most Moscatos, particularly the popular Italian styles, have a low alcohol content, usually around 5-6% ABV. This is considerably lower than the typical 12-13% ABV of most other white wines. Serving: Moscato should be served well-chilled to enhance its fresh, aromatic qualities. A temperature range of 40–45°F (4–7°C) is recommended for sparkling and pink Moscatos, while still Moscatos can be served slightly warmer.
